Architectural models are a small scale representation of a true building form. They bring out a buildings' real features i.e. form, proportion, appearance, texture and its relationship with its immediate context such as landforms and existing buildings.

Models can be categorized into three (3) basic types:

• Conceptual Massing Models : are primarily used for design study/exploration (as sketch models) and for master planning purposes hence are not detailed
• Fixed Models: are scaled and detailed models capturing the exterior form and features of a building and its immediate context
• Demountable Models: are detailed models that are openable (normally the roof/individual floor levels) to reveal further details of the interior spaces of the building
